I am fluent in English and Spanish, have a background in medical terminology, volunteer experience as an interpreter, and training in Community Interpreting. I have traveled to many different Spanish-speaking countries and been exposed to a variety of Spanish accents and dialects. I love language and love working with the community.

Born and raised in Canada, English is my first language. After receiving my training as a Remedial Therapist, I moved to the Dominican Republic where I lived for a decade, immersed in the Spanish language. While in that country I worked as a Massage Therapist, an English Teacher, and was involved in a global volunteer teaching program. Because of this, I was exposed to a large vocabulary and a variety of Spanish accents and dialects both in written and spoken form. Once I became fluent in Spanish I was often called on to facilitate communication between Spanish and English-speaking parties or to interpret information unavailable in Spanish or English. After returning to Canada I continued working as a Massage Therapist and teacher but became interested in working as an interpreter. So I took training to become a Community Interpreter as well as a language proficiency exam. For me, interpreting is not simply a language transfer, a literal word-for-word rendition of a message, but rather, becoming a person's voice to express and convey their own ideas and feelings freely where language would otherwise be a barrier.
