I was born in the United States, but both my parents are Brazilians and that gave me the opportunity to learn english and Portuguese. I also learn some Spanish and I did two years of Italian at Somerville High School. Although I feel more comfortable with the first two language, it doesn't stop me from learning more. \

 My name is Isabela Bravim, I am an american, born in the United States. Both of my parents are Brazilians and that gave me the opportunity to learn English and Portuguese, the first outside my house, like in school, and the second with my family. When I was a child I would always go to Brazil, during my vacation, and go to school there to learn how to read and write in Portuguese. People would always ask me how to say stuff in English and the same thing would occur when I returned home, only they would ask how to say things in Portuguese. During my high school years, was the most important time in my life, it took my interest to know new languages and new cultures. First I stated to learn a new language, that was Italian and get better at my Spanish. And the main thing was that I first learned about being an interpreter. It was there that I learned about LIPS. The Liaison Interpreter Program of Somerville (LIPS) is the cornerstone of our youth program. LIPS provides opportunities for bilingual high school students to learn language interpretation skills and to practice those skills at community meetings and events throughout the city. Right now I am a student of the International Relations course at the Pontifical Catholic University, studying International Relations. LIPS marked my live and once I finish college I plan to study languages and communications to improve my interpretation skills. I like to learn about different cultures and societies. I am ready for any clarification. The world is too big and life too short so I like to take advantage of the new opportunities to know the best of things and help who I can.
