I am a professional interpreter/translator/educator, working with English-Japanese and Japanese-English interpretation and translation in Kobe,Osaka, and Kyoto, Japan. My background spans from linguistics, literature, performing arts, to somatic and nutrition education. I have a B.A. and a M.A. degrees in Japanese literature from Kwansei Gakuin University, Japan, as well as a M.F.A . in Dance and Theatre from the University of Hawai’i. I have also completed the course work of Japanese linguistics program in the department of East Asian languages and Literatures at the same university. I am a bilingual adept at two languages in speaking, listening, writing, and reading. In my 30 years of living in the US, I worked professionally in the field of performing arts and education. My work included teaching at academic institutions as well as running a theatre company, connecting with and corresponding to Japanese and English speakers. During that time, I served different interpretation/translation needs at various places such as business translation (IBM), bilingual tour guide (Honolulu Bishop Museum) and festival (Singapore Performing Arts Festival) , and artists’ workshops (Traditional Indian dance at Dance Hakushu Festival, Kanze Noh performance at Towson University), and educational public speaking occasions (YMCA returnees speech contest). I can provide interpretation and translation services for performing arts, tours, academic and business meetings, seminars, events, exhibits, festivals, and conferences. Coming from artistic background, I find my language expression nuanced and detailed. It is my hope to serve many people’s needs in Japan with my bilingual interpretation/translation skills.
